Dignity Funeral Plans in Detail
Dignity currently offers four prepaid funeral plans:
Plan | Price | Funeral type | Main inclusions | Important limitations |
|---|---|---|---|---|
From £1,899 | Unattended | Collection and care, coffin, cremation and ashes returned | No service, mourners, viewing, hearse or limousine | |
£3,850 | Attended | Funeral director services, coffin, hearse and attended service | No limousine and fewer additional services | |
From £4,409 | Attended | Enhanced coffin, hearse, attended service and one limousine | Some optional services may cost extra | |
From £4,967 | Attended | Higher-tier coffin, two limousines, embalming and viewing | Highest-priced option |
Ultimately the plan you choose needs to align with the type of funeral you want. Direct Cremation is designed for someone who does not want an attended service. Essence provides the essentials for an attended funeral, while Grace adds family transport and additional features. Signature is Dignity’s most comprehensive option.
Important things to check before choosing a plan
Before buying, check:
Whether you want an attended or unattended funeral.
The collection area included in the plan.
Which coffin, hearse and limousine options are provided.
Whether viewing or embalming is included.
How the ashes will be returned.
Which burial and third-party costs are covered.
Whether your wishes could result in additional charges.
For example, burial plots (sometimes called internment) are not included. Extra costs can also arise for some optional services, transport over specified distances, funerals outside the covered area and certain weekend, public holiday or unusual-hour arrangements.
Paying for a Dignity funeral plan
Dignity funeral plans can be paid for upfront or through monthly instalments. Instalments can be spread over a maximum of five years and the plan must normally be fully paid before the covered individual’s 85th birthday.
Dignity does not charge extra for paying by instalments, but payments must be made in full and on time. Dignity has the right to end a plan if the equivalent of two or more consecutive monthly payments are missed and the outstanding amount is not paid within 10 working days of its request.
Not every potential funeral expense is covered. Burial plots, optional additions, some third-party costs and services outside the plan terms may need to be paid for separately.
What is the Dignity Promise?
The Dignity Promise provides additional protection for qualifying installment plans. If the plan is being paid in 25 installments or more and the covered individual dies after 24 months, Dignity will honour the services included in the plan even if there is still a balance to pay, provided the relevant conditions are met.
Accidental death can also be covered during the first 24 months. Payments need to be up to date or any missed payments brought up to date for the Promise to apply.
Cancellation terms also depend on how you pay. Plans paid upfront have a 30-day cooling-off period. Instalment plans generally have a 24-month cooling-off period unless they are fully paid sooner. After the applicable period, a £300 cancellation fee applies.
Dignity funeral plan reviews
As of August 2026, Dignity Funerals has a Trustpilot rating of 4.8 out of 5 from 3,828 reviews, with 91% awarding five stars.
Recent feedback frequently highlights compassionate and professional staff, clear explanations and an organised, unhurried approach. Some reviewers report less positive experiences with administration, telephone waiting times and making changes to existing arrangements.
It is also worth remembering that Dignity operates through a network of funeral directors, so individual experiences may vary. Provider-level reviews can also relate to both prepaid funeral plans and funerals arranged following a death.
Dignity funeral plans: pros and cons

Is a Dignity funeral plan right for you?
Dignity may suit someone who:
Wants an established national provider.
Values support from a local funeral director.
Wants a choice between attended and unattended funerals.
Prefers structured monthly payment options.
It may be less suitable for someone who:
Is primarily looking for the lowest-priced plan.
Wants extensive flexibility within a basic plan.
Requires services outside the standard plan inclusions.
Our verdict on Dignity funeral plans
Dignity may appeal if you value an established provider, access to local funeral director support and a choice of attended or unattended funerals.
However, its plans can cost more than some alternatives and it is important to understand the exclusions, potential additional costs, cancellation charge and conditions attached to the Dignity Promise. Compare equivalent FCA regulated plans based on the funeral you actually want rather than price alone.
Conclusion
Dignity Funerals remains one of the UK’s most established and trusted names in funeral planning. Its long heritage, consistent national service, and FCA-regulated protection offer peace of mind for those who value reliability and compassion.
While prices sit higher than some competitors, the inclusion of key guarantees – particularly for cremation and the reassurance of the Dignity Promise make it a strong option for families who prioritise confidence and care over cost-cutting.
